What's Bob Bryar's mum called? I have googled but my fu has failed me.

(That Fucking Story is now 12,000 words. Like, what? When I wrote in Murder by Numbers or Band of Brothers, I patted myself on the back when a story reached five pages.

Which is why I totes do not need to start an Ultraviolet based AU. Where Matt Pelisser is Gerard's cop partner who goes missing because of VAMPIRES. Or where Brendon is a cute lab-tech secretly pining over Bob Bryar's hardcase ex marine. Um, no. And Frank is not a hot doctor/widower. At All.)

Because I went to see The Rocket Summer last night, and it was awesome, and everyone ever should buy Bryce Avery's albums.

But before I get to Bryce, I would like to point out one of the support bands, melee (with the little french e that I am too lazy to type). They were kind of silly and awesome, and one of them could be Joe Flanagan's cousin. Who WEARS LEATHER PANTS. NO REALLY.

This is melee:

And this is JFlan's leather wearing doppelganger, whose name is, I shit you not, Ricky Sans. I'm kind of in love (also we have the same sunglasses, clearly we are mfeo):

He has a blog.

Also, i discovered that the sound guy who caught me staring at him and waved is actually their tour manager! Um, sorry Gabe?

The Rocket Summer was amazing. I am rubbish at gig summaries, you know, my usual thing is 'it was great' and that was it. But you guys, Bryce Avery is amazing and talented and fantastic, and if you have the chance, see him. He owns the stage, and he LOVES performing. With some people you can just tell.

So yeah. Also!

Flood of Red? They have a second drummer/synth player who looks JUST LIKE SPENCER SMITH in his hot lesbian days. I didn't get a good pic, though. Damn

So, I'm not a joiner.

I am practically allergic to all forms of clubs, communities et cetera, mostly because I tend to find there's always one who ruins it for everyone else by acting like Bitch Queen of Bitch mountain.

I am so, so reminded of why I think these things today.

Fall Out Boy have announced a UK tour, and I joined OCK because a) I now have a regular income and can do these things and b) for privileges  like presale tickets. Having purchased my tickets (with much rejoicing) I went on over the UK Tour Thread.  Which was of course, filled with the reasons I avoid message boards like they have particularly virulent herpes. The I am a better fan than you! mentality just kills me.

And thinking about it as you do, I realised why.

To really match up to these 'dedicated' fans who travel all around the world, known about the band since they were conceived, are i the fanclub and are generally holier than thou, you have to have MONEY.

For a start, OCK membership works out at £25. Now that the gigs are in bigger venues, tickets work out at around £26 (which is over $50!). How many people can really afford to travel to the States/France/wherever to see a band? And does the fact that you can make you a better fan than someone who can maybe afford a gig ticket for their hometown and a CD? Do they love the music less than you?

Sure, you can save up. But when I was at Uni I  could sometimes barely afford to visit my family. Now I can yeah, afford to go to London and Paris and shit, and buy OCK membership and Clan hoodies. But I don't love the music more now that I can have those things.

Also, even so? You had better goddamn well believe that if I work hard to pay for something like OCK I want presales and things like that. I mean, I love the band, but honey,  there are other gigs that £25 could pay for.

End of Rant.

FALL OUT BOY MEET AND GREET TICKETS, BITCHEZ. YES. THAT IS RIGHT. ME AND PATRICK, IN THE ONE ROOM.

*dies*

Also, for the ever demanding Laura:

A Bit of Fry and Laurie Season 1:

Episode 2

Episode 3

Episode 4

I am working on a Nadal picspam, also. But that will be tomorrow probably. You know why? JANE IS HERE. HAHAH
astoryandasong: (Default)
BECAUSE OMG BEST GAME EVER.

I just watched FOUR HOURS of tennis, and it was amazing. I hate sports, but god if watching Rafael Nadal play isn't fun. It was one of those games were the players are just so evenly matched that you really couldn't tell what was going to happen. But then Nadal converted Federer's serve, and it was over. It was amazing.

(P.S The fact that Nadal is hot like a hot burny thing does not hinder my enjoyment AT ALL.)

Today I got a text saying that Adrienne is indeed coming down with her family, and I am very excited about it!

Then I got a text which said that I had tickets to Cobras, TAI and Kill Hannah!

If you thought that the day couldn't IMPROVE, I got the Robert Plant and Emmylou Harris album 'Raising Sand', and let me tell you, it is beautiful. Also, I looked at asofterworld, and there it was. Isn't that just beautiful? Isn't it amazing?

(p.s, I am wearing swoopin sadie earrings, sitting in a cobras shirt and waiting for my shortbread to be done. nevermind all the crap that happens everyday. sometimes you got to concentrate on the good shit)
astoryandasong: (Default)
So I kind of promised A Dog's Breakfast?

Starring David Hewlett, all round fab dude.  You can download the parts here and here and here.

(ETA: rejoin with HJ Split)

Also, I got this meme from [profile] psychodragon82

1. Reply to this post and I'll assign you a letter (if you want one.)
2. List (and upload, if you feel like it) 5 songs that start with that letter.
3. Post them to your journal with these instructions

She assigned me 'S' because of silly Suarez. I have decided to try and represent all the facets of my musical taste in 5 songs that begin with S! I'm nutty, and bored.

Streetcar- Funeral For A Friend

Oh god, I love this band. I really, really do. I am going to see them on Tuesday, in my favourite tiny venue. I saw them in the Barrowlands, on Tuesday I will see them in King Tut's Wah Wah Hut, which despite what the wiki says, holds 250, maybe, tops. I am so excited, you guys. I mean, I almost cried at the Barrowlands show. They even showered us with fake snow. It was AMAZING.

Slow Pony Ride- The Weepies

I have this list in my head of all the bands I have to see before I die/they break up.  It used to have Hanson, MCR, Panic and FOB on it. Now only Iron and Wine, The Weepies and The Hush Sound remain. This is a song about finally being okay- about leaving something behind.

Saturday Superhosue- Biffy Clyro

Forget Travis, forget KT Tunstall and Glasvegas and all the other shit Scotland is putting out right now. Biffy Clyro are amazing, and 'Puzzle' is a masterpiece of an album. Also, I like it when bands from Glasgow actually sound like it. There's nothing that fucks me off more than when people put on a fake American singing voice.

Sadie- Alkaline Trio

Alkaline Trio weren't the first band I ever saw (the first band I ever saw was Matchbox 20 at The Old Fruitmarket, followed by Jimmy Eat World at the Queen Margaret Union. Fuck me but that show was empty) but I kind of fell in love with their dark stories.

Sister Awake- The Tea Party

Completely overblown Canadian rock. With sitars. <3

(Ok, so I managed to not get any of what I classify as 'bandom bands' in. I feel that this also includes other 'scene' bands, like The Audition and Mayday Parade etc. This may mostly exist only in my BRAIN, because I go and see these bands in the same venues and see all of the same people all the time.)

So, I have uploaded ****Live in Phoenix. It's split into three parts, here, here and here, and can be rejoined with HJSplit. Formatted for ipods.

Tomorrow, A Dog's Breakfast, and possibly Hard Core Logo. I have them ripped, but sendspace uploads are impossibly slow at times. Maybe some more Fry and Laurie.

Comments are <3

So my journey to work is around an hour (not the worst, but on the train, blergh). So I have been filling my ipod with shiny things.

I have also begun converting my favourite comedy show EVER: 'A Bit of Fry and Laurie'. I have so far uploaded the pilot, which is here.

I also ripped ****Live in Phoenix and A Dog's Breakfast (DAVID HEWLETT MY LOOOVVVEEEE). Which I will post sometime when I am not so impatient for shit to upload.

And because I am extra super and fabulous, I ripped the CD I got in my special edition of Hard Core Logo (which, mmm, next on rip/upload list?). I am especially in love with Sol's version of 'Blue Tattoo'. So that's here.

Which, ALSO, reminds me of a story that I have loved and re-read for years. In fact, now I remember, there were two, both by Kellie Matthews. They were all crossovers with characters played by Callum Keith Rennie and Paul Gross.

Shadows Fade- by Kellie Matthews and AUKestrel (Tales of the City/HCL)

Crossroads by Kellie Matthews (Buried on a Sunday/Masterminds)

I should re-read those again. I really should make a masterlist of all my absolute favourite fics.

I am  still alive, still writing teh epic Brendon/Bob. In the meantime:

(p.s Laura is your email still the same? and OMG MID-SEASON FINALE. IS GAETA FINALLY GETTING LAID?)
astoryandasong: (Default)
I am finally on Twitter!

Add me and stuff.
astoryandasong: (Default)
We had to get Corrie put down yesterday. He was 15 and had been with our family for 12 years, and we're all going to miss him. It will be strange not having him around.

I am still unemployed, unfortunately. I've worked a few days on and off, so I haven't reached the really desperate stage yet.

astoryandasong: (Default)
I haven't really had a reliable internet connection for the past wee while, so today I took advantage and decided to upload tons of stuff.

Firstly, The Weepies have a new album out, called Hideaway. I also uploaded a zip with all my other Weepies songs in it, including Say I am You and Happiness.

Second, some random songs:

I Kissed A Girl - Katy Perry
Black Cat - Mayday Parade
Jersey - Mayday Parade
Beating Heart Baby - Head Automatica
Sadie - Alkaline Trio
The Unwinding Cable Car- Anberlin
Decoy - Paramore

Finally broke 9000 words on the College AU!

[profile] kirana_44, your boss is a dick, hope you find a new and better job soon.

[profile] heynderyckx : your geek love fantasy is so PERFECT.  It is like how I want to marry a hot anthropology geek. I have a major crush on Blair Sandburg, obvs.

Thank goodness, it looks like [personal profile] jameth  lost the advisory board election. I was kind of made aware of the situation by a post of [personal profile] astolat's, but I also saw this post by a [community profile] metafandom mod , which linked to this one and immediately went over and voted for [community profile] legomymalfoy.

Finally that kickass bitch Jessica Valenti tells it like it is in the Friday Feminist Fuck You:

So! You're wondering how many times I'm going to post that picture! Only maybe once more, I promise.

Now that things have calmed  down a little bit chez astoryandasong, I want to know about YOU, my loves. What are you doing? Who are you loving? Give me music and stuff!

Also- I went to get my copy of The Reapers signed by John Connolly, who is only one of my favourite writers ever. His books are really scary and fabulous and have three of the best anti-heroes ever. Two of whom are gay and practically you know, married. So the books are winners, is what I'm saying.
Anyway, JC is a music geek and so am I, and I had been toying with a playlist for the books since I started reading them. So i bit the bullet, copied it onto a CD and handed it over. He was really pleased and lovely! THEN HE GAVE ME HIS EMAIL ADDRESS SO I COULD WRITE TO HIM OMG. Now I am paranoid. What if he hates it?

UGH I AM GOING AWAY TO LOOK AT PICTURES OF KITTENS NAO
astoryandasong: (Default)
He compares himself to Patrick Stump, as in LOOKSWISE. My poor baby - it's ok, you look nothing like Perez.

Also someone wrote a letter to last week's KERRANG! about how Pete was whack and Patrick ruled. It was anonymous, so I think Pete wrote it.

I am off to GIAN this weekend! I hope to see some Cobras and The Audition! I'm going to see the Cobras again on Wednesday though so...
astoryandasong: (Default)
So I'm here and still all alive and stuff.

My Grandad had a fairly major heart attack last week but we have been lucky and there is no permanent damage to his heart. He is back with us and being the same sarcastic old bugger he always is.

I have been unwell also- for the last year or so my periods had become light and irregular, which didn't bother me so much. But of late there has been hot flushes, bad skin, weight gain, excess hair. I've been tired and irritable. I also have some fairly bad back pain right now which tends to come on while sleeping. I finally called NHS 24 who told me I should see my GP within the week. So I did, and he is fairly certain that I have polycystic ovarian syndrome. For some women it never acts up  but for some it can make you produce excess testosterone and also it tends to  correlate with insulin resistance. The GP wants to do bloodwork for a hormone profile but we have to wait 21 days to do it because of my cycle (which is reaaallly long. 31 days or so).

I just want for my Grandad to be ok and for me to be not so goddamn hot all the time. For real, the minute I get stressed or something I start boiling in my skin.
