Big, giant, mother-fracking ETA: This post kind of scares me. Plus the guy in the quotes kind of calls me a child-molester by proxy. Me and everyone else annoyed by this purge. I have seen a few folk say that it doesn't matter what happens to fandom, because Warriors For Innocence are doing a good thing and getting people who molest children off the 'net. Let me be clear, I have no problem with Lj tossing actual comms or journals which advocate or enable the abuse of children. But hey, when they delete a Nabokov comm or a survivor group? That just takes it too far. It wouldn't be so bad if Lj investigated each case and weighed the individual merits of the comm. If they had bothered to check the Lolita comm they would have known that it was no threat to children.
But why be sensible when we can have a good old fashioned knee-jerk bahleetion fest. To be honest the group scared the crap out of me the first time someone pointed me towards the blog. It reminded me of the time that a mob attacked a woman cause they thought she was a child molester. They confused the words Paediatrician and paedophile. The article, by the way can be seen here.

A group called Warriors for Innocence are searching Lj's and comms by interest. I assume they use keywords like 'rape' or 'incest'. You can read Liz Marcs for more info on the group, its aims and its policy. I would advise against directly linking to their site, as one person (whose comment I can't find) suggested they are using backtrack, and I believe this is possible. ETA: Liz has received another letter from the organisation, where they claim they did not intentionally target fandom.
The group then reports the lj or comm to Lj abuse, who permanently delete or suspend the account in question. jamoche is collecting a list, on which comments are anonymous and screened. lolaraincoat is also keeping track of deleted comms. catrinella also has a fairly detailed post on the subject.
Several people such as liviapenn are warning fen to be careful about their interests. 'fiction' is okay, 'crazy spacecest' is probably not.

It's probably a good idea to keep an eye on fandom_lawyers
femmequixotic has a good post which explains her experience with Lj abuse, and asks that people not blame them for the current kerfuffle. I have to say I agree, they're in a bit of a bind.

Okay, so I'm contemplating signing up for

heroes_bigboom. Now I haven't written anything since that Queer Eye RPS a while ago, and I'd like to get some practice in before I decide. So therefore I am asking my f-list very nicely for prompts in any of my fandoms. Also I'm doing this meme:

Warning: It's 5:45 am where I am. I'm tired, I have an exam in less than four hours and I am snarky.

That was my first thought when I heard about Fanlib. Oh dear. Having read through the various posts linked on

meta_fandom and various other ljs, my reaction hasn't changed. Oh dear Fanlib, you have fucked yourselves up but good.

Now this is my opinion and not everyone will agree, that's okay. But in my opinion the biggest two fandoms going right now in fanfiction are SGA and SPN. That is where it's happening, at least in the lj portions of fandom. Now to put it bluntly, lj is basically the locus for most fanfiction going round. Forget yahoo groups or other mailing lists (but ah, the memories) or even sometimes author websites and archives. Lj is where most people play nowadays. I'm not sure if it's a good thing (I love my lj, but I loved those lists too) but I think that its true. FF.net is mostly a joke in fandom, a cautionary tale of what not to do. I mean, when was the last time YOU went to FF.net and clicked on a decent fic? Plus, no NC-17, which drives a lot of the older fans away. Archives are still going, but most of the really popular authors with the stratosphere hit counts post in Lj as well. Now why would you in your right mind go and piss off lj fandom? You wouldn't.
The fanlib CEO's tired little rant and weaselly avoidance of any reply to fannish issues has made sure that Lj fandom is going to piss on fanlib every opportunity it gets. Sure, the meta_fandom section of Lj might be small, but who doesn't have at least one bigger name author on their f-list- and those authors are currently gathering kindling for the woodpile while other fans look around shiftily for a lighter and some kerosene.

Sadly though, I have the feeling that Fanlib may still get bigger. There are a lot of fourteen year olds looking for a place to put their OMG PLEASE REVIEW THIS MARY SUE <3 XD XD fic. It saddens me a little to think that it could be that portion of fandom to get publicity and possibly get us into Very Big Trouble, with capitals C&D.

Okay so my first exam of the season is tomorrow and I am so not ready I could cry.
You know that way when you have a *vague* idea of what's going on but not so much that you could write an essay under pressure on it? Yeah, that's how I am right now. And I am so tired I could cry cry cry. For serious. I think I'll just go to bed early and get up early in order to read before the exam *sigh*

Okay, I resisted registering at Journalfen so that I could post at fandom_wank regarding the whole Mary-Jane issue. I have been reading the comments at

devildoll's livejournal, and various other posts regarding the issue by people like

brown_betty.

I have to say first off the statue is very irritiating and I did find it offensive. It was the laundry that really pissed me off. Yeah, she might have had a coy look like she was being mischevious but that is not the damn point- there are a million other things she could have been doing in the statue. I have gotten used to the female figurines in sexy poses. They're just so much background noise to me now, but come on. Sexualised poses while kicking ass are only slightly irritiating. They just make me sigh. That JLA Powergirl cover? Really annoying. I mean come on.

But what really got to me was the 'OMG these women are hysterical!' tone in some of the comments. Yeah, it isn't exactly the fall of humankind but where does it say that people can't get annoyed about stuff like that? What's wrong with being a feminist? What's wrong with getting annoyed at someone reducing a strong woman to a passive sex object who seems to get thrills washing her husband's costumes?

I just started to wonder if I was missing something. Did I miss the memo on feminist= hysterical and irrational? Not just in this context but in general. Why is feminism such a dirty word? Why, if you support the equality of women are you not a feminist?

I am so tired I could fall asleep standing. I'm finishing an essay on the issue of gender in politics as portrayed in mainstream American media. It is exceedingly hard for me to keep my sarcasm in check. For example Rush Limbaugh- I struggle not to say 'he's a misogynist idiot. The End' . I might post it here when its finished. It is also My LAST ESSAY EVER at university *cries*. I never thought I'd be sad but I am.

Ahh Eurovision, you are over for another year. Thanks go to Ireland and Malta, who saved us from the embarassment of no points again! Serbia won- the voting was ridiculously blocked AGAIN this year but Serbia were very good. Though I admit I voted for Sweden with their ridiculous swirly floor and 'metallic chest hair'. Terry Wogan was spectacularly on form again. Seriously, sarcastic cynicism for the win.
Adrienne watched it with me and we ordered pizza while laughing at the Romanian entry. They were in the top ten but they sucked really, really hard. We also sucked, but at least we had amusing innuendoes and air stewardes impressions.

Procrastination- the sport of Kings. Remember that episode of Sabrina that was all about procrastination and they had a beanstalk and everything?

It turns out that my constituency is one of the one most affected by all these errors that are showing up. The SNP has asked for a recount of our ballots and the request has been granted.
In Dumbarton, Jackie Bailie held for labour despite being a rubbish msp who never seems to DO anything.

Anyone of my f-list interested in the Scottish Election results- you can see the constituency results as they come in here. My current constituency is Aberdeen Central, but my home constituency is Dumbarton (or West Dunbartonshire). I'm most looking forward to the Glasgow constituency results. I think that the greens may gain a few seats on the top-up vote. Hopefully Labour will get embarassed and the tories will get thrashed as usual.

Okay so, someone has fufilled my longing for girl!Peter/Nathan, if only partially- what I really want is for it to be Peter, you know? Like s/he looks like Peter and everyone knows its him. Then gone back and read your comment and thought, 'hmm, I sound like a kiss ass'? I honestly wasn't paying any attention to the ahem, 'larger scale' of the wank going on in SGA. Minority pairings! Minorities in general!
I agreed with Hth in that people just dismissing writing because of a pairing really kills me, because honestly, sometimes pairings I don't normally read have just got awesome fic and awesome authors. Take Harry/Ron for example. Resonant wrote Harry/Ron (I'm pretty sure it was her) and after reading her Harry/Draco I had to go read it, despite the fact that I really do not enjoy that pairing too much.
But whatever. I've never really been involved in wank and I don't plan to start.
